Hurricane Beryl Communications    

July 14, 2024  I  3:00 p.m. Update

The Texas A&M University Galveston Campus will resume classes and normal on-campus operations at their regularly scheduled times tomorrow, Monday, July 15. Faculty, staff and students experiencing issues should contact their supervisor or instructor with questions or to make alternate arrangements.

As the campus community returns to lab, office and classroom spaces, we ask everyone to look closely for any issues or damage that may have resulted from Hurricane Beryl. This includes leaks or signs of water intrusion, electrical issues, damaged equipment, A/C issues, etc. For any found maintenance issues, please submit a work order to facility services via Maintenance Connect.  


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Electrical power has been restored to campus. Facility assessments will continue throughout the week.
  • Dining services and the mailroom will resume normal business hours.
  • This week's Sea Campus Kids and Sea Camp Residential Camp (July 14-20) remain canceled. Please call or text Sea Camp staff at 409.789.6213 with questions or for additional information.

  • Galveston County has designated cooling centers where you can find relief from the high temperatures. These centers provide a comfortable place to stay cool and hydrated, which is crucial for everyone, especially vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those with preexisting health conditions.

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY STAFF EMERGENCY FUND

  • Created to help members of the Aggie Family in need, the Texas A&M University Staff Emergency Fund provides limited financial assistance to staff members of Texas A&M University who are experiencing a temporary hardship due to a significant life or emergency event. This fund is also available to Galveston Campus staff.
  • Visit the Staff Emergency Fund website for information on eligibility criteria, application procedures and ways to donate.


TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT GALVESTON HURRICANE FUND

  • For those who would like to donate to support students, faculty or staff, the Texas A&M University at Galveston Hurricane Fund is available for donations. These gifts support immediate needs such as housing, food, clothing, transportation or other services. One hundred percent of donations to this fund are used to help the Aggie community.
  • Visit the Texas A&M Foundation “Give Online” portal to contribute. Please be sure to select the “Galveston Hurricane Relief Fund” account.

Electrical service has been restored across campus and facility assessments are underway. University officials will announce a decision on Monday’s classes and operations tomorrow, Sunday, July 14, no later than 3:00 p.m.

With the exception of Building 3033, Texas A&M Maritime Academy Hall, electrical service has been restored to campus. Facility assessments are underway and will continue through the weekend. At this time, university officials will make a decision on Monday’s campus operations no later than Sunday, July 14 at 3:00 p.m.

Due to continued widespread regional power outages, classes and remote work are canceled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 11. The campus has experienced minimal impacts beyond the power outage from Hurricane Beryl.

However, due to continued power outages with an unknown restoration time and current heat advisories, university officials ask that families or caregivers willing to pick up their campers early may do so as their resources allow. This is a voluntary request; campers may choose to stay through the remainder of camp. Call 409.789.6213 with additional questions or concerns.

Classes and remote work are canceled for Tuesday, July 9, due to widespread regional power outages and to allow campus restoration and recovery from Hurricane Beryl's impacts. Known campus impacts include power outages and minimal driven rain infiltration of some buildings. Power restoration is unknown at this time, and an assessment team is on site.

  • Sea Camp Residential Camp continues with modified programming to ensure camper comfort and safety. However, lack of power and air conditioning may make sleeping uncomfortable. Should any caregiver wish to pick up their campers, they will be able to do so after 4 p.m. today.
