Applying for Graduate Programs    

For the MCMS Ph.D. program, applications are accepted for fall and spring entry.

Identify a Graduate Mentor    

Before applying to MCMS Ph.D. program, you will need to identify a mentor who will guide you along your career path. A mentor must be identified on the admissions application.

Begin contacting potential mentors 9-12 months in advance of your anticipated start date in the program.  This allows the potential faculty mentor to determine if your research interests match their own, and if proper funding and space are available.

Please create an account and fill out your GraduateCAS application form online. Please remember that you are limited to one program application per admissions semester. Applications are not accepted for summer entry.

Application Fee

To complete the application process in Graduate CAS, you must pay the application fee of $89 for U.S. students or $114 for international students. The application site accepts credit card payments only. Please note refunds are not issued for any reason.

Transcripts
Transcripts

Please upload unofficial transcripts to the online application. Official transcripts will only be required upon acceptance into the program.

Personal Statement
Personal Statement

A personal statement is a narrative essay that explains your reasons for applying to the program and your professional goals. You can upload your statement of purpose directly into your GraduateCAS application.

Resume/CV
Resume/CV

You may submit either a professional resume or a curriculum vitae (CV). Either document should show your involvement in academia or the workplace. You can upload your resume/CV directly to your GraduateCAS application.

Letters of Recommendation
Letters of Recommendation

All applicants must enter the names and email addresses of three recommenders in the Program Materials section of the application.* Letters of recommendation help the admissions committee learn more about you from the perspective of former professors. If it has been some time since you attended school, you may request recommendations from employers instead. Enter contact information about recommenders in the Program Materials sections of the application, and they will receive an invitation to submit their letter.

 

* All recommenders must complete their recommendations in the application portal by the application deadline for your application to be considered. It is the applicant’s responsibility to send reminders to recommenders.

The financial aid process begins with submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). More information about this process is available from the Office of Financial Aid.

Several types of funding opportunities are available to master’s research and Ph.D. students such as Scholarships, Grants, and Assistantships. Faculty may also nominate high quality incoming students for competitive Graduate Student Awards.
