What in your life drew you to your current field of study?
Ever since I was a child I always loved the water and boating. My father and grandfather were both avid fishermen that would take me along on all of there fishing trips on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I grew up listening to stories from both of my grandfather's about their time at sea and being in the Navy. That is when I decided I knew what I wanted to do. When I was in high school I participated in sea scouts and JROTC, which drove me even more towards a life on the ocean. My mother and I looked at several maritime academy's and we decided that I would be best suited to attend Texas A&M at Galveston. I finished the program and went to sea for almost 9 years. I am new to the world of being an instructor, but I hope i can motivate young men and women to aspire to become successful mariners and drive our Merchant Marine forward.
What do you hope your students gain from studying or working with you?
I hope that I can instill a good work ethic, and a solid understanding of what the maritime industry is really all about. Honor and integrity are the keystone of what being an Aggie is all about. I hope I can be an inspiration to the future of the Merchant Marine.
What are you passionate about in your personal life?
I, like my Grandfather, am also an avid fisherman. On any given Saturday you will probably find me somewhere in west bay with a rod in my hand.
