TweetOn October 17, the student organization Sea Aggie Pride hosted its annual fundraiser drag show at the Island Time Beach Bar and Grill.
The drag show is a yearly fundraiser for the student organization entering its 13th year of operation. The drag show attracts both students and professors to watch the contestants perform and compete.
In total, nine individuals competed, and two group acts also performed. To conclude the show, advisor Cloé Bourdages and attendee Danny Roe surprised everyone with a performance of Pink Pony Club by Chappel Roan.
The contestant that won the drag show was Lollipop. Lollipop is a sequential winner, winning last year's drag show fundraiser.
Lollipop stated just after winning that “I am so excited I got to show off Sea Aggie Pride and raise a whole lotta money. I had so much fun.”
The drag show was able to raise $1800 in total. The drag show fundraiser sold 101 tickets in total, earning $505 from the presale. The drag show fundraiser made $795 from cash tips given to the contestants, and Island Time Beach Bar and Grill allocated a portion of the night's food profits to the fundraiser.
That night, in addition to the cash tips and food percentages, there was a cash ticket lottery. The winner received half of the raised pot, while the fundraiser received the other half.
In the duality of the drag show fundraiser, the dialogue about drag shows being banned was also touched on during the fundraiser by the master of ceremonies, MC Kimber.
Being a seasoned performer, MC Kimber had this to say about the dialogue of drag show banning: “Drag is often publicly made to be something it's not. It's simply entertainment. It's fun. Its beautiful costumes. It's stepping out of yourself and being somebody else for a moment, because who doesn't want to be somebody else for a moment? ... So, I wish people would learn that about drag and give it a chance and experience it before you judge it.”More:
