Family Weekend is a program where students are able to bring their families along to experience a weekend at Texas A&M Galveston.

About 514 family members were able to visit more than 200 students on campus.

Natalie Luna, ‘28, expressed her excitement for her family to experience our university's traditions, saying, "My favorite memory was doing the Aggie War Hymn during the Corps Sunset Parade and Yell practice."

The parade allowed families to be able to witness one of the greatest traditions of Aggieland since 1928. The Aggie War Hymn is special to the heart of the Aggie Spirit. "I had a wonderful time with my family, but I do believe that there should be more stuff [events], more organizations and clubs involved, like SALL [Student Association of Latino Leaders] did with Dia De La Raza; they brought vendors to serve the community.”

Dia de la Raza translates to “Day of the Race," referring to the mix of heritage and cultural diversity of Latin America. This event served 307 plates of tacos, drinks, and desserts to the families and students of TAMUG. Specifically, the event recognized the role of indigenous people in Latino activism against "Columbus Day" in the United States.

Families were able to get a tour of the Sea Life facility and the TS Kennedy. Amelia, a mother of a freshman student on campus, believes that “Touring the Sea Life Facility helped me understand the opportunities my kids have in this university.”

The Sea Aggie Former Student Reunion coincided with this family weekend, providing former students with the opportunity to share their career journeys and how their time at TAMUG shaped their careers in the Blue Economy. Erin N. Oradesky 91’ spoke at the reunion, where she highlighted her career achievements and how she gives back to the community.
