According to student body Vice President Abigail McKenna, Texas A&M Galveston’s Student Government Association is “a representation of the entire student body” and “our way to communicate to administration [as students].”

Being a professional organization that’s goal is to represent the entirety of the student body to administration and the greater Galveston community seems like a lot of pressure to uphold a strict professional policy. However, this is not always the case.

Senators and executives in the Student Government Association enjoy both the professional aspect and the privilege of working with students from other campus groups.

On October 30th, 2024, the Student Government held their costume party meeting and presented two President of Halloween awards, which were selected by the Executive Cabinet and the Senate.

The meeting proceeded normally with updates regarding events planned by student government, such as Midnight Breakfast and the ETAM Workshop. Students quickly shifted their focus from the organization's professional aspects, which continued as they usually did, to voting on the best costume.

The Senate chose Matt McKenna '28 as the winner of the President of Halloween award for his highway patrol costume, while the executive cabinet chose Wesley Pawlowsk ‘25 for his UFC costume and the radiant positivity that he brings to the Student Government Association.

So not only is student government able to “make real change on this campus," according to Abigail McKenna, they are also able to “communicate with other student leaders,” whether formally or informally, to advance the quality of student life on campus or even the campus itself.
