Course Support & Guided Group Study

Coursework at the collegiate level is challenging for everyone, so the Center for Academic Learning Support offers two course-specific programs to assist students as they work through the learning process outside of the classroom: Course Support & Guided Group Study. Both programs are designed to help students understand content better, provide extra practice, and build intellectual skills. Our peer Learning Consultants are embedded in the courses they support so that they can interact with the students, faculty, and course content proficiently during their sessions held either virtually or in the Jack K. Williams Library Study Rooms. Students should choose the program that best fits their needs and take advantage of these fantastic FREE resources to enhance their academic journey!

Course Support:

Course Support offers personalized guidance through difficult course concepts and example problems in small-group sessions for historically challenging, quantitative coursework. These tutoring sessions are led by student Learning Consultants who are trained to help students succeed in their courses. Anyone can attend scheduled sessions as needed throughout the semester and should come prepared with specific questions and course materials.

This program is perfect for tackling courses that assign problem-solving based homework and accommodates up to 6 people per 30-minute session within 2-hour blocks. Sessions are held for the same subject from any course section or instructor, and you can reserve or stay for back-to-back sessions, coming and going as needed. It's a great way for students to get the support they need and boost confidence in their studies!

Guided Group Study:

Guided Group Study provides structured, pre-planned sessions that focus on interactive group study designed to reinforce course content in a fun and relaxed environment. These sessions are led by trained, student Learning Consultants that have been successful in the course and involve working in pairs or small groups for most activities, and can accommodate up to 30 students.

This program is fantastic for learning how to study large quantities of information or complex processes. Sessions are 1-hour long, designed and facilitated by a Student Consultant who works in conjunction with the Course Instructor. They target the most challenging and important course content taught during lectures from the previous week and are repeated three times a week. You can attend once a week as needed, with no appointment necessary, and you're encouraged to bring a friend. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet classmates, form study groups, and make learning enjoyable and effective!
