Texas Success Initiative

All incoming college students in Texas are required to take the TSIA(2) Assessment to determine readiness for college-level work unless they meet a TSI exemption.Students will not be able to register for ANY courses until TSI scores or an exemption is received.

TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVEDETAILS

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a Texas legislature mandated program for students who attend Texas public institutions of higher education as of Fall 2003 (Texas Education Code §51.3062). Students must comply with this mandate in order to enroll in Texas public institutions of higher education. The law requires all entering college students to be assessed for college readiness in mathematics, reading, and writing unless the student qualifies for an exemption.

How Does it Work?

Incoming college students in Texas are required to demonstrate readiness for college-level work in basic skills areas. The TSI Assessment is only one way for students to meet this requirement. Students can review exemptions to determine TSI status.

All NON-EXEMPT incoming students are required to complete the mandatory TSI Pre-Assessment Activity and take the TSI Assessment test before registering for classes.

CHECK TSI  STATUS

You can view your TSI Status in Howdy. Your account will display “exempt,” “complete,” “college ready,” or “retest required” if scores have been processed.
