Academic Advising    

To build upon your success as a graduate student, it is critical to meet from time to time with Graduate Studies advisors to help you navigate the policies and procedures of your specific track. Here are just some of the meetings that you can schedule with us.

First Semester Advising (Required)

During this meeting, advisors will go through deadlines and expectations for your track. They will show you resources to build your degree plan.

Your degree plan outlines the courses you plan to take and when you will take them. Advisors will contact students during the first week or two of the semesters to schedule their appointment.

Please note that some programs will place a registration block on your account if you do not meet an advisor. We want to make sure that every grad student is on the right path.

Proposal Advising (Optional)
This session is for research students (M.S. thesis and Ph.D.) gearing up to submit their written research proposals. Learn about expectations during the proposal writing process and submitting the research proposal to the Graduate and Professional School. Group and one-on-one sessions are available. Group sessions usually take place in March and October.
Preliminary Exam Advising (Optional)

This session is for doctoral students preparing to take their preliminary exam. This session will cover coordinating the exam with your student advisory committee members and what to submit when you are done. Group and one-on-one sessions are available. Group sessions typically occur in March and October.

Graduation Advising (Optional)

This session is beneficial for students a year or less away graduating. Learn how to navigate the bureaucracy, learn about commencement events, and ensure you're ready to graduate.

Group and one-on-one sessions are available. Group sessions usually take place in September and February.
