What in your life drew you to your current field of study?
One of the most important things was a course I took in undergrad on a subject that was new to me: biological oceanography. I remember being absolutely stunned and surprised learning about oceanic patterns of phytoplankton and their importance in the marine food web. This little spark of interest led me years later to a phytoplankton ecology laboratory where I quickly became completely fascinated by plankton.
What are you passionate about in your personal life?
Traveling, trying new things (especially food and drink), family, friends, and SLEEP (I have two young children). I also enjoy bird watching, kayaking, and gardening.
