Texas A&M Maritime Academy Residence Hall Construction Project
Hurricane Beryl, followed closely by two additional tropical weather systems with high rainfall, caused a failure in the Texas A&M Maritime Academy Residence Hall exterior that allowed water intrusion to over 200 resident rooms.
The project is being conducted in three phases by third-party contractors coordinated through the Galveston Campus Executive Team, Office of Environmental Health and Safety Office, Campus Living & Learning and Office of Administration and Auxiliary Services. We expect the project to extend into the spring semester with the construction timeline dependent upon weather.
Phase One, which included removing water-impacted materials and partial room restoration, is complete, except for students who have opted to delay temporary flooring installation until winter break. Phase Two is underway.
Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks. Sign up for regular updates from the Galveston Campus administration.

Why are rooms in different states of restoration?
The project is being completed in three phases. Phase One, now complete, included removing water-impacted materials, drying, cleaning and partially restoring walls and flooring. Partial room restoration allows contractors to quickly identify water intrusion points while identifying the source of intrusion and quickly responding to prevent further damage. Temporary flooring is being installed, with some students opting to delay installation until winter break.
Will I receive financial relief?
Due to the extenuating circumstances managing Phase One of the project, residents currently residing in the Texas A&M Maritime Academy residence hall received a one-time $825 refund for the fall semester. The refund does not apply to students permanently relocated to another residence hall. Refunds were processed by October 25. If you have an outstanding balance, the refund will first be applied to the balance. If you have concerns or questions about the refund, please contact Campus Living and Learning.
Given the ongoing construction, Texas A&M Maritime Academy Residence Hall residents will receive a 5% discount on their spring 2025 resident hall rate until the project is complete.
What measures are being taken to ensure student safety?
We have implemented the recommendations of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and third-party contractors, such as installing HEPA filters and using the same filtration systems used during COVID. Air quality monitoring and testing will continue to be conducted by our environmental health and safety office and contractors.
Who do I contact with concerns about my room?
Maintenance requests can be sent to Campus Living & Learning, which manages campus residence halls in coordination with student residents, through the online maintenance portal.
What is the timeline for completion?
The project is being completed in three phases that we expect to extend into the spring semester. Phase One is complete, with Phase Two currently underway. The exact timing is not yet available and will be highly influenced by the weather. Details on the timeline will be provided in communications throughout the entire project.
