MPE Overview

The Math Placement Exam is a free multiple-choice examination used to assess a student's math skills. It is essential that you do not use a calculator on this exam. It is an important tool to help your advisor determine which mathematics course you should take. There are two MPE exams and students will be directed to the correct exam based upon their major.

All TAMUG majors must take the math placement exam BEFORE attending their New Student Conference. Science and engineering TAMUG majors will have an online, proctored MPE exam about a week before their NSC.

Engineering at Galveston students who are a part of the College of Engineering must have a proctored MPE. Check your email for these communications.

Who Must Take the MPE?

Anyone who is not transferring in a college level math course must take the MPE. Most transfer students are not required to take the MPE if transferring in prior college level math from another institution.

Requesting Testing Accommodations

Reasonable testing accommodations are provided to allow students with documented disabilities an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
